A timer plus this handy list of fall self-care ideas could keep you from burning out by Christmas!
This quote really resonated with me, so I shared it on Instagram and in my monthly Beauty Seekers’ email guide (which you can join here!).
I love the idea of it, but the practicality … well, I’ll let you judge.
“Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.”
-Maya Angelou
Ahhh – a day away, not solving problems… sounds like heaven.
But how exactly does one get such a day, when there are kids to be fed, dressed, taken to school/dr. appointments/playdates, napped and fed again, laundry to wash/dry/fold, food to make, dishes to wash, toilets to be scrubbed, people to text back, friends to check in on, books to be read, work to do … I could go on but I’ll spare you. For many of us, fall is the busy ramp-up to Christmas. It doesn’t feel like the time to slow down.
Here’s the thing: there will always be more to do. But there’s only one of you. If you’re burned out and exhausted, then what will become of all of your responsibilities?
I have a hypothesis. Instead of pushing through exhaustion until the crash and burn out that will force you to take an entire day (or more) of doing nothing, what if you refilled your tank by small increments every day?
- While you’re taking care of the kiddos, make yourself a cup of tea and light a candle (out of reach, of course).
- Listen to your fall music playlist while you fold laundry or make lunches for tomorrow.
- Before bed, read for just twenty minutes.
- Go on an artist’s date!
Download the Fall Self-Care List
To that end, most of the items on my downloadable fall self-care list can be done in 20 minutes or broken into 20-minute increments. Start with that, just twenty minutes – set a timer! Block it out on your schedule.
I want to hear how it goes! I’ll also post a Bingo version of this list in my Instagram Stories, so you can mark them off and share it as you go!
