Welcome to part two of our spring cleaning series, the kitchen! If you are looking for some kitchen cleaning motivation for your spring cleaning or some inspiration for where to start and what to even clean, I hope you enjoy this series!
On our spring kitchen cleaning list for today: sweeping and mopping behind appliances, cleaning the oven and microwave, reorganizing the pantry. And basically, just going through it and tossing anything that’s expired, emptying and cleaning the fridge, and cleaning the highchair. And then I added to my list wiping down the front of the cabinets and the oven hood, and then dusting the tops of the cabinets and finishing with sweeping and mopping the whole floor, not just behind the appliances.
If you want to join the spring-cleaning challenge, you can download your worksheet here. Last week, we did the whole house section. Now we are driving into each room one by one, doing some deep cleaning.
I thought I would show you what I have in the cabinet above the fridge. I’m using magazine holders to store paper products and party stuff and I love this idea! It used to all be stored in that picnic basket, and it was a huge pain to get out.
Oven Hood Cleaning
So, the thing that makes cleaning the oven hood tricky is that it’s dusty, but it’s also weirdly sticky. I tried using a multipurpose cleaner, and it kind of worked, but honestly, I thought maybe dish soap would work even better. And it did!
Pantry Organizing
Okay guys, so this is our pantry situation. It’s not ideally organized, ideally for sure but since the pantry’s so small and we don’t really have a ton of stuff it kind of works, but I’ll see if I can do something even better here.
When you’re organizing your pantry, take everything out, then group it into categories. Go through each category, checking the expiration date, refilling containers and decanting.
Decanting can actually save a lot of space from bulky packaging. Your typical packaging, like boxes, take up a lot more room. Also, you can see when you’re getting low on something!
Here is a decanting mistake that you can learn from: if you’re going to decant stuff, it doesn’t always fit all in one container. So, use up the extra first, then that just clears up that clutter and I don’t have to deal with it anymore!
Fridge Cleaning
Okay. So, you can see I’ve done some organization in the fridge before. I’ve labeled things; Lunch. This is the bread shelf. But I have not actually cleaned it in a while. One thing I like to do before I put my groceries away each week is to just take a minute to wipe down the shelves. I don’t have to take everything out, but when it’s mostly empty, it’s the perfect time to just do a little bit of cleaning so things don’t build up too much.
While the fridge is still empty, I think it’s the perfect time to move it out and try to clean under or behind it.
I would love to figure out some way of organizing the fruit and vegetable drawer so that it’s a little better and fruits and vegetables don’t get lost in the bottom. So, I’ve got to do some research on that. But I did pop all the blueberries into a Tupperware container.
I’m so happy with moving the refrigerator meet and cheese drawer. It was up higher, which made a really awkward space.
And don’t ask me about the freezer because I don’t feel like I can do that this week!
