If you’re looking for cleaning motivation or minimalist fall decor inspiration, look no further!
In this week’s video, come along for an all-day clean before getting out the fall decor – at least what’s left of it after my last holiday decorations decluttering! After we use what we have, we’re shopping at Dollar Tree for some DIY supplies and putting up our minimalist fall decor.
Despite what most fall decorating videos would have you believe, you don’t need to go out and buy all new decor each year! 😉
Also in this video: DIY with Edison, new cleaning products, and a Dollar Tree Haul.

So how do you go about decorating for the seasons, especially holidays, minimally?
I’m still learning, that’s for sure. But at the beginning of quarantine I went through my seasonal decor and decided to part with a lot of it. I really wasn’t feeling the bright oranges or all the spray painted gourds and pumpkins anymore. Now that it’s actually fall, I am kind of missing having a wreath! So, that’s why I found myself at the Dollar Store.
Few things are irreplaceable, and actually, I like my new DIY wreath better than my old one!
There’s three lessons I’ve learned about minimizing my seasonal decor:
1. Don’t let yourself buy anything until you’ve already put out all you have
I know how tempting it is to pick up another candle or cute sign – but you could have an abundance of them already (guilty!).
2. Look outside
Natural decor like pine cones, acorns, leaves, ferns, branches, dried grasses, flowers, and even weeds can all become home decor. We gathered pinecones on one of our walks, and Edison helped me string them with some twine to create a rustic banner. Plus, pinecones work for Christmas too, so it’s two for one!
3. DIY
Flower and leaf pressing, paint, hot glue – it only takes a few supplies to make your own wreaths, garlands, and art. In my video above, Edison and I DIYed our own garland, and in an upcoming video I’ll show you how I upcycled some fall decor to make it more my style.
