Two Tricks to Read More Books
As I mention in the video, two tricks helped me I read more books in 2019 than I have in years past. First, setting a timer for 20 minutes. Just 20 minutes – either before bed, or during lunch, or some other free time. I learned this from the 10 Things to Tell You Podcast, which I recommend (lots more book talk!). Sometimes I decide to keep reading past the timer. Creating this 20 minute habit helps me get through a lot of books, faster than you’d think!
The other trick is listening to audiobooks! You can find a lot of audiobooks on YouTube and listen for free, but my favorite way of finding audiobooks is using the Libby app. If your library supports it, you can hook up your library card to the app and check out digital and audiobooks for free! It’s fantastic! Brian has listened to dozens of books over the last few months on his commute using it. Both of my favorite fiction books I mention below I listened to through Libby.
Favorite Parenting Books
- No Bad Kids: Gentle, respectful parenting techniques
- Janet Lansbury’s Podcast (also recommend)
- Have a Happy Family by Friday : Great whole family foundations like communication, quality time, etc. Loved the birth order theory information!
- The Montessori Toddler” A beautiful book that’s simple to read and apply.
- Kitty Cotten’s YouTube Channel (Where I first heard of the Montessori Toddler book)
Favorite Business Book
- The $100 StartUp: All the business courses I’ve ever taken boiled down into just the practical, nitty-gritty.
Favorite Self-Improvement Books
- The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up: LOVED. Definitely a great read!
- Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can’t Stop Talking Buy it if you are an introvert, think you might be an introvert, or know an introvert.
- Susan Cain’s Ted Talk: Worth listening to if you don’t have time to read the whole book
- The Body Keeps the Score I’m recommending this to EVERYONE. LIFE. CHANGING.
Favorite Fiction Books
- The Enchanted April Four women from very different lives come together to answer an advertisement and rent a castle in Italy for a month. Delightful, with heart.
- To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before: Liked the movie better, but still, a fun read. Must read the sequel now, since the second movie is coming out soon!
