I don’t know when I’ve ever been so excited about cleaning! I’ve been hard at work doing my fall decluttering #KonMari style. Take an unofficial tour of our home renovation as you join me for my fall cleaning and home decor tour in the video below:
For today’s post and video I’m taking part in The DIY Mommy’s Fall DIY & Decor challenge! Check out the playlist to see all the videos and find more fall decor inspiration!
I did a little decluttering as I went along because our utensil holder was so full that it was hard to pull anything out. I also went through our measuring cups and spoons and pulled out any sets that were broken or missing pieces and donated them to the boys’ play food and cooking toys.
Ideas for Hygge
Have you guys heard of “Hygge?” I’m definitely saying it wrong. It’s a Danish word for “a mood of coziness and comfortable conviviality with feelings of wellness and contentment.” It’s blown up as a popular interior decor trend in the last few years, for good reason! Don’t we all want coziness and conviviality and contentment at home?
So here are a few quick ways to incorporate “hygge”:
- First, add texture, like plenty of cozy blankets, pillows, and seating.
- Candles are a huge part of the trend, so indulge in your favorite fall scents and those sales at Bath and Body Works. Gotta stock up!
- Hygge is much more than just decor – it’s also slowing down, savoring time together, and feeling grateful. You could do this by decorating together as a family, having a family game night, or baking together.
Once we’re done decorating, I’m going to get “hygge” and indulge in one of my favorite fall traditions, while drinking some hot tea in my favorite mug, wearing some of my favorite socks, and cuddling under a cozy blanket.
Fall decluttering and decorating helps me reset and make the most of the rest of the year. It’s the perfect time to clear out what’s not serving us and welcome all that’s cozy and good.
Speaking of which, before much longer I’ll be able to share with you my KonMari journey of sorting through our books and papers, and kitchen kimono. Normally in the KonMari method, you should tackle books early on, but we left ours packed in boxes when we moved from Arizona over a year ago until we got settled in a house. Seeing our books for the first time in over a year definitely made the decluttering process easier!
Download the Fall Decluttering Guide
If you’re looking for a place to start, might I suggest my own decluttering guide (wink wink)? I think it’s incredibly helpful as a place to begin or use in combination with The Lifechanging Magic of Tidying Up. Not only does the downloadable PDF guide you through your house, but it also includes decluttering your digital life – email, phone, social media – and your very soul – unforgiveness, toxic relationships – other yuck that doesn’t spark joy!
Enter your email below, and it will be on the way to your inbox!
If you’ve downloaded my guide in the past, I’d love to know what you thought of it. Was it helpful? What could be improved? Thank you in advance!
