When I was growing up, I loved poring over the pages of my mom’s books of natural beauty recipes. I don’t remember what they were called or who they were written by, but I remember the lovely thick pages filled with body scrubs, creams, hair treatments, toners, masks, and facials, all made with items from the grocery store. It all sounded so luxurious, and yet it was so attainable. Although I wasn’t a girly-girl by any stretch, something about the idea of taking good care of my skin and hair was appealing. No matter how much of a tomboy I might have seemed, I did want to be pampered, even if it was just by putting oatmeal in my hair.
With all the upheaval in my life lately, taking some time to return to my old love of making natural beauty products was just the pampering I needed. This sugar scrub only took minutes to whip up. I use it in the bath and as a facial too – the sugar exfoliates softly and the coconut oil deeply hydrates, so it leaves your skin silky smooth and smelling lovely. Rose geranium oil is said to help with hormone balancing, depression, and stress relief – yes please!
You’ll Need:
- 1 cup of white granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup of coconut oil
- rose geranium essential oil
- dried rose petals (optional)
- air tight jar for storage
Combine the sugar with coconut oil. Remember that the warmer the oil is, the more liquid the consistency will be. Increase the amount of sugar if needed to make the consistency a thick paste.
Add 7-10 drops of your rose geranium essential oil, and mix well. I crushed up some dried rose petals I had on hand and added them – but if you don’t like little bits floating in your bathwater, you can leave these out.
Scoop the scrub into a jar, and use whenever you need a little pampering!
