Remember when I said I decided to tackle re-painting our fireplace at the same time we tore apart our office? Ta-da!
Before:
It was brown. And as I’ve said before, I’m not always a fan of painting fireplaces – especially if they’re red brick. I LOVE a red brick fireplace. But this one was brown. And ugly.

We used white glossy paint, in hopes that it will be easy to wipe soot off of (it is!). We also bought special paint rollers for rough surfaces. I highly recommend. It takes A LOT of paint, and some elbow grease.
But really, I can’t speak to that so much, because Brian ended up doing most of the work, while I … supervised. #PregnancyPrivelege.
It’s finished!
I took an informal poll on Instagram. Should we leave the mantle as it is, or should we go for the all white look? Or, as a wildcard option, paint it black?
The photo on the right is from Domino Magazine. Votes were evenly split, but since I don’t feel like doing any more work on this project … I think we’re going to leave it as is.
My sister decorated it for Valentine’s day with sticks from our backyard, paper hearts, and this heart-shaped wreath made from dyed coffee filters! She seriously needs a blog.
The room feels so much brighter, more roomy, fresher, and more modern. I can’t believe what a difference it made!
And, we got a new couch! Goodbye, plaid monster. Although you were super comfy, I’m happy to replace you with this classic gray sophisticated one. I bought it from friends who are moving. I just need some more throw pillows, and we’ll be set.
